Welcome to the HOMELAND seminar
Cimmeria, Gothia, Scythia, Sarmatia, Olbia, Gardariki, Danparstad, Rus... These toponyms, also mentioned in the Old Norse sagas, either show the way modern Ukraine and its capital, Kyiv, were refererred to in antique and medieval times, or name the lands, city states and kingdoms of the different Indo-European origin which previously occupied its territory.
Thanks to the recent genetic studies, most researchers (archeologists and linguisticians) agree that the PIE (Proto-Indo-European) Urheimat (an original, primordial homeland) was represented by the Pontic-Caspian steppe located to the north from the Black Sea. More northward parts of modern Ukraine definitely played its role in the expansion of the Indo-European tribes, too. It happened at around 4 000 BC.
Discovery of the Trypilian culture in right-bank Ukraine (5 400 BC), which existed from the Neolithic period to the Bronze Age, overshadowed this turn in the Indo-European studies, although the growing number of new reasearches on the Yamna culture added even more credibility to this hypothesis. Older and different from the Indo-European cultures, Trypillia, though, brought the ur- prefix in the region's archeological chronicles to a whole new level (of depth). Some symbols and artifacts common to the Trypilian and the Indo-European cultures have been found in the territory of modern Ukraine back in the Paleolithic period.
Today, on the occasion of the winter solstice, we wish to revive ancient mysticism of our common cradle by launching a scientific seminar on related topics.
