Історія — це не лінійка, це картярський стіл. А правила гри за цим столом завжди писали в Лондоні, Парижі чи Берліні. Петербург же завжди був лише галасливим і дещо дикуватим прикажчиком, якому дозволяли збирати недоїдки зі столу справжніх господарів світу.
У цієї глобальній грі Україна застрягла в унікальній текстурній пастці. Нас намагалися назавжди розчинити в Азіатській матриці. Це особлива, вкрай витончена тоталітарна система. Це коли гігантська державна машина копіює європейську форму — будує хмарочоси, купує суперкомп’ютери, шиє дорогу форму для чиновників, — але всередині зберігає суто ординську, деспотичну суть. У цій матриці території безмежні, а людина — ніщо. Її завдання — бути безликою цифрою в чужих геополітичних звітах.
На світовій карті суб’єктності нашу країну просто зафарбовували в колір цієї тоталітарної пустелі. Вас ніби немає в юридичному полі. Ви — невидимки.
Модерне українство — це, перш за все, акт раптового і для багатьох дуже неприємного проявлення. Це коли декорація раптом оживає, бере в руки інструменти і починає перебудовувати театр під власні потреби. Це момент, коли етнос, який довго намагалися утилізувати всередині бездушного тоталітарного конвеєра, усвідомлює себе як Технологію Свободи.
Старе, традиційне українство, яке так плекала тоталітарна система, було суто етнографічним. Матриця дуже любила «малоросійські пісні», вареники та вишиванки. Чому? Бо етнографія — це безпечно. Етнографія — це музей. А з музею ніхто не стріляє. Якщо ви зводите свою ідентичність лише до туги за минулим та солов’їної мови у вакуумі, ви вже програли. Вас законсервували всередині азіатського тоталітарного заповідника.
Модерне українство здійснило радикальний розрив із цим хуторянським гетто. Воно перетворило ідентичність із фольклорного додатка на сучасне програмне забезпечення.
Нація — це не кров і не спільні предки, які тисячу років тому орали одне й те саме поле. Нація — це операційна система для виживання та домінування в XXI ст. Цей новий український софт виявився дивовижно гнучким і смертоносним для азіатської вертикалі. Його головні характеристики — це повна відсутність віри в «доброго царя» чи єдине начальство, мережева структура, де люди здатні збиратися в складні самоорганізовані структури за хвилини через месенджери, а також гіпер-адаптивність. Це здатність миттєво освоювати будь-яку технологію — від крипти до військових дронів — і використовувати її не за інструкцією, а так, як вигідно тут і зараз. Нарешті, це іронічний стоїцизм, коли весь світ може котитися в прірву, але українець поставить на паузу кінець світу, щоб пожартувати про це в соцмережах і зібрати донат на ЗСУ. Ми перетворилися з об’єкта чужих маніпуляцій на суб'єкт, який сам створює нові правила гри на ходу.
Якщо подивитися на карту світових еліт, стає зрозуміло: російський тоталітарний проєкт завжди був вторинним, провінційним маскультом. Вони копіювали Голландію за Петра I, Францію за Катерини II, Німеччину за Маркса. Це карго-культ, загорнутий у ядерний шантаж і скріплений страхом перед всевладним правителем.
Там, де діє азіатська матриця, немає місця особистості — є лише німа покора перед сакральним Батьком Нації.
Україна ж історично завжди тяжіла до зовсім іншої геополітичної лінії. Наш архетип — це не монгольська деспотія, де раб цілує чобіт пана, а козацька республіка. А що таке козацька республіка в її сухому політичному залишку? Це акціонерне товариство зі зброєю. Це англосаксонська модель договору вільних людей ради спільного прибутку та безпеки. Модерне українство — це, якщо хочете, Британія Східної Європи. У нас такий самий острівний менталітет, хоча навколо нас — степ і суходіл. Ми відчуваємо себе окремим світом, який відгороджений від євразійського хаосу стіною здорового глузду та залізної волі. Наш патріотизм — це не релігійний екстаз перед портретом вождя. Це раціональний патріотизм власника, який захищає свій дім, свій бізнес і свій газон. І якщо заради захисту цього газону треба спалити кілька дивізій тоталітарного монстра — що ж, це просто операційні витрати.
Справжнє народження модерної української нації відбулося не в кабінетах політиків і не під час підписання папірців. Воно відбулося в окопах та волонтерських штабах. Саме там на практиці було доведено перевагу нашої моделі над тоталітарною.
Що ми побачили з боку ворога? Величезну, неповоротку Азіатську матрицю XIX ст. Де сержант чекає наказу від лейтенанта, лейтенант від капітана, а той — від генерала, який сидить у Кремлі й нічого не розуміє. Це залізна логіка епохи вугілля та пари, де мільйони життів кидають у топку заради забаганки однієї людини. Там панує культ мертвої вертикалі.
Що виставило проти цього модерне українство? Мережецентричну екосистему. Коли кожен взвод — це окрема ІТ-компанія, яка самостійно вирішує завдання на своїй ділянці фронту. Старлінки, планшети з артилерійськими програмами, які за секунди рахують траєкторії, тисячі цивільних дронів, перероблених на коліні під скидання вибухівки. Це війна вільних людей XXI ст. проти безликої біомаси позаминулого століття.
І головне — волонтерський рух. Це абсолютне ноу-хау модерного українства, що в принципі неможливе в умовах тоталітаризму. У тоталітарній системі будь-яка самоорганізація вважається бунтом і жорстоко карається. У нас же, коли державний апарат не встигає, суспільство просто дублює його функції. Купити супутник для розвідки за вихідні? Легко. Привезти три сотні пікапів через три кордони за два дні? Буденність. Це і є найвища форма громадянського суспільства, яка назавжди ламає імперську логіку контролю.
Будь-яка життєздатна тоталітарна система прагне вирівняти ландшафт — зрізати будь-які голови, що виросли вище загального рівня. Століттями українська еліта або планомірно знищувалася в підвалах спецслужб, або купувалася імперським центром. Нам намагалися залишити лише слухняні низи — заляканих, безпорадних і покірних виконавців чужої волі.
Сьогодні на наших очах народилася нова українська аристократія, яка має абсолютний імунітет до вірусів азіатської деспотії. Але це не аристократія крові чи куплених дипломів. Це аристократія Чину. До неї належать військові професіонали нового гарту. Це люди з блискучою освітою, які знають іноземні мови, розуміють логістику і вміють керувати складними технічними системами. Вони дивляться на війну не як на подвиг заради царя, а як на складну, високоточну менеджерську роботу. Також сюди входять технологічні підприємці та ІТ-сектор — ті, хто створює додану вартість з повітря, використовуючи лише свій інтелект. Вони вільні за своєю природою, не залежать від держави, інтегровані в глобальний ринок, але обирають жити й платити податки тут, будуючи форпост свободи. Третя складова — горизонтальні лідери та волонтери. Це люди, чий авторитет тримається не на наказах зверху, а на рівні довіри знизу. У модерній Україні репутація знову стала найдорожчою валютою, що повністю суперечить логіці тоталітаризму, де головне — лояльність системі. Ця нова еліта більше ніколи не підкориться жодній вертикалі. Їй просто нудно в рамках застарілих євразійських деспотій чи навіть у деяких заскорублих європейських бюрократіях.
Тут, в Україні, зараз пишеться історія світу, і бути архітектором цієї нової реальності — це найвищий статус, який тільки можна уявити.
Модерне українство остаточно змінило свій візуальний та вербальний код. Ми нарешті вилікувалися від багатовікового комплексу жертви, який нам так старанно прищеплювала тоталітарна машина.
Довгий час радянська та імперська пропаганда намагалися виставити українську культуру як щось другосортне, плаксиве та приречене на поразку. Це була свідома стратегія — змусити нас повірити, що опір неможливий.
Сьогодні українська культура — це естетика сили, нищівної іронії та технологічного шику. Це кіберпанк на тлі чорнозему. Це поєднання високих технологій із прадавніми інстинктами свободи. Наш гумор став зброєю, яка висміює та десакралізує тоталітарні міфи. Наш дизайн став світовим трендом, наша музика — саундтреком до руйнації застарілих геополітичних імперій. Ми більше не просимо жалю. Ми розбили вікна тоталітарного барака, вимагаємо поваги і беремо своє за правом сили, правди та інтелекту.
Модерне українство — це не просто локальний феномен на східному кордоні НАТО. Це рентгенівський знімок усього сучасного світу. Ми показали, що західна цивілізація, яка почала засинати у своєму ситому комфорті й пасувати перед нахабством новітніх диктатур, все ще має зуби. Ми повернули у світовий лексикон поняття свободи не як абстрактне гасло з нудного підручника, а як конкретну річ, за яку варто вмирати і заради якої варто знищувати ворогів.
Ми наочно продемонстрували, що Азіатська матриця, яка здавалася всесильною та монолітною, насправді є крихкою, заіржавілою конструкцією.
Ми показали, що будь-якого тоталітарного колоса на глиняних ногах можна звалити, якщо у вас є правильний цифровий софт, точна артилерія і відсутність страху в очах.
Модерне українство — це проєкт майбутнього. Це країна-стартап, яка пройшла через вогонь тоталітарного пекла і вийшла з нього з кристально чистим розумінням свого місця в історії.
Ми більше не гвинтики в чужій матриці. Ми — Новий Центр Сили. І всьому світу доведеться вчитися грати за нашими правилами вільних людей.

Andriy Soshnikov: Chronicles of Exiting the Asian Matrix: Anatomy of Modern Ukrainianness
To understand what modern Ukrainianness is, we must first cast aside the veil of foreign sophistry. For centuries, we have been convinced that history is a linear process, where great nations build states, and small ones serve as ethnographic material for them. This is a sophisticated lie.
History is not a ruler, it is a card table. And the rules of the game at this table have always been written in London, Paris, or Berlin. Petersburg has always been just a noisy and somewhat wild clerk, who was allowed to collect leftovers from the table of the real masters of the world.
In this global game, Ukraine is stuck in a unique textural trap. They tried to dissolve us forever in the Asian matrix. This is a special, extremely sophisticated totalitarian system. This is when a giant state machine copies the European form — builds skyscrapers, buys supercomputers, sews expensive uniforms for officials — but inside it retains a purely Horde, despotic essence. In this matrix, territories are boundless, and man is nothing. Its task is to be a faceless number in foreign geopolitical reports.
On the world map of subjectivity, our country was simply painted in the color of this totalitarian desert. It’s as if you don’t exist in the legal field. You are invisible.
Modern Ukrainianism is, first of all, an act of sudden and for many very unpleasant manifestation. This is when the scenery suddenly comes to life, takes up the tools and begins to rebuild the theater for its own needs. This is the moment when the ethnos, which they have long tried to dispose of inside the soulless totalitarian conveyor, realizes itself as the Technology of Freedom.
The old, traditional Ukrainianism, which the totalitarian system so cherished, was purely ethnographic. The matrix was very fond of “Little Russian songs”, dumplings and embroidered shirts. Why? Because ethnography is safe. Ethnography is a museum. And no one shoots from a museum. If you reduce your identity only to longing for the past and nightingale speech in a vacuum, you have already lost. You have been preserved inside an Asian totalitarian reserve.
Modern Ukrainianism has made a radical break with this peasant ghetto. It has transformed identity from a folklore application into modern software.
A nation is not blood or common ancestors who plowed the same field a thousand years ago. A nation is an operating system for survival and dominance in the 21st century. This new Ukrainian software has turned out to be surprisingly flexible and deadly for the Asian vertical. Its main characteristics are the complete lack of faith in a “good tsar” or a single authority, a network structure where people are able to gather into complex self-organized structures in minutes through messengers, as well as hyper-adaptability. This is the ability to instantly master any technology — from crypts to military drones — and use it not according to instructions, but as is profitable here and now. Finally, this is ironic stoicism, when the whole world can roll into the abyss, but a Ukrainian will pause the end of the world to joke about it on social networks and collect donations for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. We have turned from an object of foreign manipulation into a subject that creates new rules of the game on the fly.
If you look at the map of world elites, it becomes clear: the Russian totalitarian project has always been a secondary, provincial mass cult. They copied Holland under Peter I, France under Catherine II, Germany under Marx. This is a cargo cult, wrapped in nuclear blackmail and bound by fear of an omnipotent ruler.
Where the Asian matrix operates, there is no place for personality - there is only mute obedience to the sacred Father of the Nation.
Ukraine has historically always gravitated to a completely different geopolitical line. Our archetype is not a Mongolian despotism, where a slave kisses the master's boot, but a Cossack republic. And what is a Cossack republic in its dry political residue? It is a joint-stock company with weapons. It is an Anglo-Saxon model of a contract between free people for the sake of common profit and security. Modern Ukrainianism is, if you like, the Britain of Eastern Europe. We have the same island mentality, although around us is the steppe and the mainland. We feel like a separate world, fenced off from the Eurasian chaos by a wall of common sense and iron will. Our patriotism is not religious ecstasy before the portrait of a leader. It is the rational patriotism of an owner who protects his home, his business, and his lawn. And if for the sake of protecting this lawn it is necessary to burn several divisions of a totalitarian monster - well, these are simply operating costs.
The true birth of the modern Ukrainian nation did not occur in the offices of politicians or during the signing of papers. It occurred in the trenches and volunteer headquarters. It was there that the superiority of our model over the totalitarian one was proven in practice.
What did we see from the enemy's side? A huge, clumsy Asian matrix of the 19th century. Where a sergeant awaits orders from a lieutenant, a lieutenant from a captain, and the captain from a general who sits in the Kremlin and understands nothing. This is the iron logic of the age of coal and steam, where millions of lives are thrown into the furnace for the sake of one person's whim. The cult of a dead vertical reigns there.
What did modern Ukrainianism oppose to this? A network-centric ecosystem. When every platoon — it is a separate IT company that independently solves problems on its front line. Starlinks, tablets with artillery programs that calculate trajectories in seconds, thousands of civilian drones converted on the knee to drop explosives. This is a war of free people of the 21st century. against the faceless biomass of the century before last.
And most importantly, a volunteer movement. This is the absolute know-how of modern Ukrainians, which is basically impossible under totalitarian conditions. In a totalitarian system, any self-organization is considered rebellion and is severely punished. Here, when the state apparatus does not have time, society simply duplicates its functions. Buying a satellite for reconnaissance over the weekend? Easy. Bringing three hundred pickup trucks across three borders in two days? Everyday life. This is the highest form of civil society, which forever breaks the imperial logic of control.
Any viable totalitarian system seeks to level the landscape — to cut off any heads that have risen above the general level. For centuries, the Ukrainian elite was either systematically destroyed in the basements of the special services or bought by the imperial center. They tried to leave us only obedient lower classes — intimidated, helpless and submissive executors of someone else's will.
Today, before our eyes, a new Ukrainian aristocracy has been born, which is absolutely immune to the viruses of Asian despotism. But this is not an aristocracy of blood or purchased diplomas. This is an aristocracy of Rank. It includes military professionals of a new breed. These are people with brilliant education, who know foreign languages, understand logistics and are able to manage complex technical systems. They look at war not as a feat for the sake of the tsar, but as a complex, high-precision managerial work. This also includes technology entrepreneurs and the IT sector - those who create added value out of thin air, using only their intellect. They are free by nature, independent of the state, integrated into the global market, but choose to live and pay taxes here, building an outpost of freedom. The third component is horizontal leaders and volunteers. These are people whose authority is based not on orders from above, but on the level of trust from below. In modern Ukraine, reputation has once again become the most expensive currency, which completely contradicts the logic of totalitarianism, where loyalty to the system is the main thing. This new elite will never again submit to any vertical. It is simply bored within the framework of outdated Eurasian despotisms or even in some hardened European bureaucracies.
Here, in Ukraine, world history is being written now, and to be the architect of this new reality is the highest status imaginable.
Modern Ukrainians have finally changed their visual and verbal code. We have finally recovered from the centuries-old victim complex that the totalitarian machine so diligently instilled in us.
For a long time, Soviet and imperial propaganda tried to present Ukrainian culture as something second-rate, whiny, and doomed to defeat. It was a conscious strategy to make us believe that resistance was impossible.
Today, Ukrainian culture is an aesthetic of strength, devastating irony, and technological chic. It is cyberpunk against the backdrop of black soil. It is a combination of high technology with ancient instincts of freedom. Our humor has become a weapon that ridicules and desacralizes totalitarian myths. Our design has become a global trend, our music is a soundtrack to the destruction of outdated geopolitical empires. We no longer ask for pity. We broke the windows of the totalitarian barracks, demand respect and take what is ours by right of force, truth and intellect.
Modern Ukrainianism is not just a local phenomenon on the eastern border of NATO. It is an X-ray of the entire modern world. We have shown that Western civilization, which has begun to fall asleep in its well-fed comfort and succumb to the arrogance of the newest dictatorships, still has teeth. We have returned to the world lexicon the concept of freedom not as an abstract slogan from a boring textbook, but as a concrete thing worth dying for and for which it is worth destroying enemies.
We have clearly demonstrated that the Asian matrix, which seemed all-powerful and monolithic, is actually a fragile, rusty structure.
We have shown that any totalitarian colossus on feet of clay can be brought down if you have the right digital software, accurate artillery, and a lack of fear in your eyes.
Modern Ukrainianism is a project of the future. This is a startup country that has gone through the fire of totalitarian hell and emerged from it with a crystal clear understanding of its place in history.
We are no longer cogs in someone else's matrix. We are the New Center of Power. And the whole world will have to learn to play by our rules as free people.
